Work on the Madison-Milton bridge replacement probably will start a couple of months later than had been expected, with completion still likely in 2012, Mayor Tim Armstrong said Tuesday. After reviewing more than a dozen proposals the city has picked an architect to design the proposed $25 million arena/event centre. The winning company is Stantec, a company that has worked on projects ranging from airport terminals to city infrastructure such community centres and schools. High profile projects include the design of the new terminals at the Ottawa International Airport and the Vancouver International Airport.  

Rules designed to limit conflicts of interest involving consultants hired by the City of Ottawa are stifling development and should be relaxed, some councillors say. "We're finding now that the pool of engineering consultants has shrunk so much that we can't get any work done," said Rainer Bloess, city councillor for Innes ward, who is pushing for exemptions from the rules for certain projects and areas of the city.
